Hungarian Osage recurve with ratsnake backing
« on: May 07, 2022, 03:56:37 am »
A couple of years back I got some Osage from Hungary (East Europe) and most of it split like crazy on me, despite the debarking and woodglue sealing, storing it at a cool place.
A while back I had a second look at the ones i kind of saved for future bows and saw that there was just enough wood in this one for a nice small recurve.
Since I needed a new bow for myself (the shoulder isnt getting any better and lighter draw seems only way to go), I used this stave for it.

Guess i was lucky with that choice, for except a few minor cracks in the grip i don't worry about, it all came out nicely.
Added a ratsnake skin on the back for a nice contrast in black and osage, and kept that theme going with black horn nocks.
This bow surprised me a lot on the cast, its quick and quiet and only is 35lbs at 29 inches.

Nice detailed work....It always amazes me by how small of an amount of osage will make a viable bow.At 29" draw I'm sure it'll spit an arrow plenty fast.
Like the skins on it too.

Beautiful bow, with a very nice tiller. I bet it's a sweet all day shooter at the lighter weight.

She’s got a shape to her!  I like it!  Very well done.  Did you stain or Color the skin or is that natural Color?  Looks awesome
