Locust Borers
« on: May 06, 2022, 01:37:33 pm »
We don’t have much locust where I live, but yesterday I finally got an opportunity to cut some.  The problem is they are all eat up with locust borers.  Do the borers stop eating after the wood is dead and if not is there any way to stop them?  I wonder if I should just reduce the stave down as much as possible to try and cut them out quickly?

the problem with borers is you don't know how deep they have gone.. remove bark and sapwood.. sometimes they stop in sapwood.. you gonna remove that anyway.. you can treat with pesticide if that is as far as they went and seal.. otherwise you might go ahead and chase to a clean ring.. treat and seal.. gut

I agree, I would get down below the asap, then seal. If there are any potentially still active in the wood they could go deeper than they already are.
