So I broke a bunch of bows and finally finished a hickory bow that pulled 37# at 24" but I had concerns about it-it seemed to stack really hard so I had an expert archer friend come over to shoot it and he said it stacked really hard and seemed harder to pull than his 50lb competition bow so we both put it on the scale and tested it and he asks me....
"DO YOU REALIZE YOUR SCALE IS SET TO KILOGRAMS?"

I'm such an idiot. but at least i know i can make a 81lb bow without breaking it.

Eighty-one pounds would "stack" pretty hard for me also!

I laughed pretty hard when I read this.  My scale will change to Kg for no apparent reason and have made the same mistake while tillering.

I use a "TRADITIONAL" spring scale that never switches to  METRIC.

Thanks for sharing that embarrassing moment, OP. It's a great reminder to all of us to watch for things like this that can really mess you up without warning.

81lb is a stout bow, 40lb should be easy for you now.

Been there done that!  But not at the critical completion stage, usually manage to catch it first!  I am looking for a spring scale with a "stop" though
