Arvin, I have seen such edges but also furrows on several historic bows. I think they were very special bows, for example, ritual bows or perhaps bows for outstanding personalities.
I cannot see any particular advantage over rounded cross-sections (except perhaps marginal mass savings). It is just more or less an aesthetic touch. I'm sure not every bowwood is suitable for that, but with osage we can do everything ...
