Static recurve first
« on: July 06, 2021, 04:35:39 pm »
Two semi-recent bows.
Summary: Two short bows, hickory staves, sinew backed, wet-weather resistant, low 50's poundage.

Both from same Missouri hickory stave, cut last summer.
Both have some deflex, especially on one side, from stave naturally. Both had about 0.75" deflex, and final set is only about 0.5", so now deflex of around 1.25 after shooting.

First attempt at static recurve. 56.5 inches ttt, 53# at 25", with one layer of sinew on back, then two layers down middle, backed with coues deer rawhide glued with TB3. Tung oil finish, so far.
Siyahs are osage orange, glued in with TB3, and reinforced with sinew wrapping and hide glue, and the rawhide backing. Overkill, perhaps, but these are for backcountry hunting use. Full draw shows siyahs a little fuller than they are now, as I trimmed the profile a bit.

Shorter bow got piked, as it was originally about 56.5 , as it seemed a little slow for three layers of sinew. It is about 54.5" length, 53# at 25" or so, and a little faster; I have around 10 or more coats of spray on spar poly on this one, for use in AZ monsoon weather. Looks like a wax dipped affair.
