Scottish Yew Recurve (Hollow Limb)
« on: May 23, 2021, 06:20:44 pm »
This is my first bow in more than 6 years!
Found the yew stave while walking my dog. I thought the stave had some really nice reflex but due to some massive knots I had to sacrifice that for a flawless stave with some quite a bit of deflex, so I added some nice recurves. I also had to hollow out the belly due to a high crown back! It’s good to be back making bows ! Expect more! Enjoy!

Looks incredible. Is that arrow pass inlayed? If so I’d love to hear how you did it.

Very nice.  You got a good bend in those limbs

Well you certainly didn’t forget anything. Just like riding a bike.

Beautiful bow.

Look forward to seeing more.

a great bow with a super attention to detail...I would hunt with it...if I could still still pull that kind of weight.  LOL   :OK
Seems like common sense isn't very common any more...

I'm not sure I believe that  ???.  Have you been practicing?

Nice work though, That RD profile must work great.

Very beautiful work.  The detail of your arrow pass is my favorite part.

Thanks guys! It’s a nice shooter! As for the arrow pass, it’s a lot more simpler than it looks, I just used a dremel to drill into the wood and filled it with epoxy resin coloured with charcoal to get the horn look, the “horn” overlays are also made from epoxy resin.

I am more in practised making English longbows and warbows than flatbows, I’m hoping to make a recurved ELB out of some Osage I have which should be fun.  Has anyone came across a recurved ELB before?  Any pointers would be appreciated!
