draw length vs bow length question
« on: May 16, 2021, 05:49:06 pm »
hello there!
i am building my first osage bow, a static recurve
my problem is that while bending one recurve, it broke where there was a small knot in the belly, so I had to cut the tips 2,5 inches each.
i steamed and bend it again with no problems this time, but the bow is only 52,5 inches NTN now.
my draw length is 25-25,5 inches long, the recurves are not big (4 inches), the bow is a little over 1.5 inches wide at the fades, tapering to maybe 15 mm at the start of the recurves.
the limbs are not reflexed, and I would like to get around 55 pounds of draw weight!
its 50 pounds at 15 inches now, and the tiller looks good.
do you think its possible to get it to 25" without backing with sinew?

thanks

regards from Portugal

Take the bow length and subtract out the non working center. Divide that by 2. That is a safeish estimate.
