Fuming- Ammonia hydroxide or chloride?

I'll be fuming some White Oak. Never done it before. l see that there are two types of ammonia: hydroxide and chloride. Which one is best and are there any other specs l need to know? Thanks everyone

Check out Simsons website - Stonehill primitive bows. He has a page in the “how to’s” with info on fuming. Sorry I can’t be of more help as I’ve never done it (but love the results). Good luck!

Never tried it. I always thought it was common household cleaning ammonia, left undiluted in an open container. NH3. Make a little closed off enclosure with plastic to trap the fumes.

For best results you should use Industrial or Janitorial strength ammonia hydroxide. Common household will work but not nearly as good. It's usually only 2 - 3 %. I have used 10% janitorial strength from Ace Hardware store with excellent results.
