Drew an archery elk tag!
« on: April 21, 2021, 10:54:12 am »
Just checked the New Mexico draw results and I drew a 2nd hunt archery elk tag!

This will be in northern New Mexico near the Valles Caldera.  Beautiful scenery and rough terrain.  Haven't been this excited in a while ;D

Congratulations!!! Hope you have an enjoyable and successful hunt. I've driven through that area and it is beautiful...

You WILL photodocument as much of it as possible and write a great article for P.A. Mag, RIGHT???
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

I'd love to...buuuut...I'll probably be using a production made Grozer horsebow...does it count if I make my own arrows with hafted trade points?

One out of two ain't bad!  Who's Grozer?  Maybe if you do it from horseback, no saddle? (lol) (lol) :BB

That is exciting!  You are talking about using your Scythian bow?  Is that one biocomposite?  It’s an interesting question about its “acceptable” nature.  I received one of their painted Turkish bows.  It shoots VERY well.  I could see why you would want to hunt that bow.

Season begins Sep 1st for the first archery hunt, runs two weeks.  I got the 2nd hunt which starts Sep 15rh and runs two more weeks.  Glad I got the 2nd one because labor day weekend screws up everything, pushes animals.

Yeah, it's a biocomposite model.  I can't get primitive bows to stand up to our ultra low humidity here, often single digits,  where by my math, the wood is somewhere between 3 and 5 percent moisture content.

6C it is.

I've got my broadheads heat treated and ground, just need the final sharpening but I'll wait until after I bare shaft.

Working some local collected shoot shafts of currant, cherry, and wild rose right now.  Should be some heavy finished arrows between 700 and 800 grains.
