Maple Backed Walnut Tiller Check
« on: March 11, 2021, 09:24:24 pm »
Here is one in progress, it is 68.5" ntn, a hair under 1.5" wide in the middle, and about 16oz.  It has about one inch of glued in reflex.  The backing is rather thick, so I rounded it.  There is some run out in the belly so I am shooting for only about 40# @ 27".

How does the tiller look?

P.s.  The limb with the extra string hanging off is designated lower limb right now.  I have shown a view of each side.

Can you confirm your design - English longbow style, etc?

Need to know what the front profile is.
But its bending too much in the middle at the moment.

The limbs are parallel in the inner two feet, and then taper to 1/2" knocks.  I am shooting for a plain D-bow.

Needs more bend in the outer limbs. I wouldn’t touch the inner third/half of the bow right now. Shorten up that long string.

Mid to outer limbs need to bend a fair bit more. On the top picture be careful to mark that section on the mid/inner left limb it is starting to hinge.
The tiller should be elliptical. Middle hardly bending and as you move out towards the tips the bend should progressively increase.
