Wow I'm impressed, that is a short heavy bow and looks dead straight unbraced
In the woods I find my peace

Can’t believe you got that weight out of a piece of wood that small and short with that little string follow. Makes me believe my bow dreams are possible

Very good job on that bow, I like it a lot! That wood is quite pretty, can’t say I remember ever seeing it before.

This stave was heat-treated pretty thoroughly with some full body reflex, dont let that unbraced pic fool yah she wasnt that way when i started the final tiller  ;D
i used to think that 70 pounds was quite heavy as well. but now its just my normal shooting weight. i like how flat some tapered fir shafts fly out of a good #70+ Bow. You'd be surprised at how much something like an extra 1/16" thickness can add as far as poundage and stable weight distribution. plus this wood is very elastic and lent itself well to what i was asking of it. which is always nice :)

We dont have it where i live. as far as i know the eastern boys have it as an invasive and of course the European boys.
i cant remember how i got this one. but i liked it so much i asked around and had to pull some favors string to get another stave, to which Mr. Arnold came through. much appreciated!

Cody Wright (misslemaster) was really the one who was pretty prolific with this wood and definitely made an impact on the community with this wood and his artisan bowyer skills.

thanks guys much appreciated. havent posted a bow it what feels like forever. cheers!

I ask because this is what we call buckthorn. The berries make an amazing drink or pies etc. Stacked  with vitamin C. But I doubt you could get a bow out of it :)

Yeah, that was my first thought - sea buckthorn. But it is really hard to get a piece of that kind of wood for a bow - it‘s more a shrub.
But the common buckthorn is a tree which grows massive here in my area - it‘s left and right to the railroad.

Not sea buckthorn, for sure. It's funny that leaves and fruits aren't far from cornus sanguinea (that is also really good for bows).

You should try making a pie with the other kind.  ;)

Hahahahahahahaha yeah and end up with a fecal Jackson Pollock bathroom lol

We harvest a handful or two every year and dry them into a type Cascara raisin. works really nice for the nieces and nephews when they get a little.....umm... backed up lol

Woo 70# @ 27" nice :) But that's punchy.
I'd like to know how far that would throw a flight arrow :)
Great work

oh that would be something to test out. unfortunately all my flight arrows have been pretty well wrecked lol the only one i have that in ideal shape is a Keasey arrow i mix in with em to try and spread the good juju to my other arras lol

might be worth making up a testing batch though and head out to the Alvord when the windy season dies off down there.

maybe see about making a video
