2021 Bow Trade - build in progress

Hey everyone sorry it’s been a while. It’s been nonstop work and runs for me since I started ems. With COVID springing up it Seems like it’s work sleep and work again. I’m about to start tiller on my hickory pyramid bow mainly cause I don’t think plan A is feasible anymore. Hopefully you all aren’t too mad at me for not posting my work. Hope everyone is safe and healthy.

I need the opinion of the group please. My current favourite bow to send will be too short of draw length. I think it will be a really nice  yew character bow. If I do it right, it should be good for draw weight and will reach the requested draw length, but, it will be maxed out as the draw length is exactly double the distance from nock to nock. Would you be disappointed if you received a bow that was shorter than you asked for?

Just an update…I’ll be sending out approval to ship for a number of people shortly so watch your messages. It may have to wait until next weekend as I am off to Idaho on an elk hunt. But I’ll try for later today.
Also, one of the members unfortunately had a fire and lost all of his bow building stuff including his trade bow. That said we are going to need at least 1 if not a couple back up bows. So that said, if anyone has a reserve going it would be great. I’m also trying still get deerhunter in on the reserve trade.

Managed to get a few sessions in this week; deflex is down to about 10mm, twist is about 15°. But some of the side to side bend has come back, bit annoying.  Thinking maybe three or four more sessions with the heat gun.  It is bending to 16 inches though, so I'll need to sort out a string soon.

Will be getting my trade bow out by the 1st. Its maple back Ipe. Really nice little shooter. It 47#@26" and 57" t2t. R/D.

Please be brutal, this is where my character yew is at.  If you think its not gonna be up to scratch then say it.  Heat treatment isn't finished, I want to flip the tips a tiny bit, and straighten the side to side at the handle.  Once that's done then I can get on with tillering.

Stuckinthemud, it looks like it’s going well to me… seems like it’s got potential to be a great bow!

As for me… I’m getting close to putting a finish on my bow… but I have a question… how exactly does one ship a bow? I’ve only shipped like one ore two things before and they were small. So what exactly do I do?

Arrow boxes taped together. PVC pipe. 1x2 and 1/4” plywood. Us postal.you will figure it out. Arvin

PVC pipe works well and would have to be a disaster for the contents to get broken. I shipped a bow in pvc through UPS and they would not ship with both caps glued on. Would allow one glued on but other had to be put on and taped in place by them. That was for a bow trade 3 years or so ago, and things may have changed, or it may have been a procedure of my local UPS office, but you might make a call before you glue lids on.

So, I have a bit of a problem.  I just finished my trade bow, and immediately found hairline chrysals.  The bow is rawhide backed, is there anyway to salvage it?  If not, I have a nice 36# @ 27" hickory board bow with cloth diamondback that I made August of 2020, but it's practically new.  It is significantly underweight, but it looks great and it shoots.  I'm very disappointed that I haven't finished a successful bow since February, but I can offer this bow or drop out.  What do you all think?
