Snakey Hackberry Selfbow - 57# at 28"
« on: February 28, 2021, 02:18:40 pm »
Happy Sunday all. Here's a snakey hackberry selfbow I recently finished up and shipped out. You'll have to forgive me for not always getting that full draw shot. Seems to be too many moving parts around here to remember to get one for every bow. Hopefully the profiles will satisfy the bow gods this time  (W.

It's 57# at 28" draw, 2" wide at the fades and 66" long. I added 1.5" reflex to the blank, and the finished bow holds 1" of it.

It came with a hand-stitched bison hide quiver, 6 target arrows and 6 hunting arrows. The arrows are 11/32 Surewoods fletched with wild turkey feathers and artificial sinew. I'm excited to get this kit into the hands of its new owner.

Great work, as usual. Your lack of full draw picture is forgiven, we all know your tillers are spot on anyway ;)

Nice amount of character in that one. No doubts about the tiller. Glad to see you posting more of your work on here!

That’s magnificent... really really awesome.... tell me about the color though, it’s pretty great.

Looks awesome...nice work. The couple hackberry bows I have made left me wanting to cut more. Light in mass, smells great while tempering, and holds reflex. I'm sure the new owner will love it.

Thanks all. I appreciate the kind words!

Yep! This is the first complete kit I've shipped out this year. I had a handful of carry-overs to finish up from the 2020 wait list  ;D

Haha, greatly appreciated Jaap!  (SH)

This is my go-to color for hackberry, and it's achieved by applying MinWax Ebony stain and then immediately wiping it off without letting it soak. Really brings out the character and unusual color patterns in hackberry!

It deserves more credit as a bow wood than it gets! Sometimes it can be a little soft, but when you get a more dense one it makes a real fine bow.

Wild and beautiful. Clean tillering as far as I can see (right limb - upper pic) on a not so easy to tiller piece.
