Sinew and Horn bows???

Do you have to use sinew on the backs of horn Bows . What is the elastic abilities of horn vs the compression ability?

I had always thought a horn belly on a unbacked wood bow would be slow due to the weight. Then I saw how the wood/horn bow you made performed last year. Proven me wrong. There were some old horn only bows from Java I have seen and apparently Africa, india and Japan(baleen), and don't forget Homer's description of a horn bow. From what I have seen though it is not verry good on it's own.
