2021 1st Newbie build along challenge

it's a pyramid style selfbow, 2" wide at the fades with a straight taper to 5/8" at the nocks. The handle is still a bit too wide, but I'll narrow it down a little as I finish the bow.

today's progress: I weakened a bit the right limb (top limb) and scraped some spots that seemed stiffer. The bow is still a lot stronger then I need it but seems decently tillered at this point, so I hope to have some room for final adjustments.

Mid left limb in that pic looks like it could bend more.

Mid left looks a bit stiff, though it may not be if there is natural reflex there.  it looks like there is a slight hinge right out of the right fade.

Yes, it does look like it should bend more, even if that spot is thinner then the outer limb... That's why I didn't srape much off from there.
Tradcraftsman:  yes, there's a bit of reflex in the outer 1/2 left limb; you're correct about that slight hinge too, that's a thin spot... I'll have to scape above and below it to make it bend evenly.

i probably need to get my tools in working order. my scraper isnt sharp, im trying but i dont know if i can get that bur... my drawknife is chipped and is very dull, my vise is loose... Time for shop matinence!!!!

Ill get my elm D bow im starting in here when I get home in three days. So far its been reduced to around 1/14 wide full length by 3/4 inch thick by 64” long and has black locust tip overlays glued on. Plan on having it come out 55# at 27”.

sorry to hear you last bow didn't work out  Allyn! looking good zugul.... making some progress on this super funky stave... Big S wiggle so a tiny bit of steaming to get the sting on the handle... a little fixing reflex, and now am floor tillering! taking it slow cause this stave is really funky ! I'm not totally positive with its aesthetic right now, but hopefully ill get that sorted out soon enough!

today I did just a bit of tillering, trying to make some spots bend a little more. I think yesterday I was drawing the bow a bit too much for the poundage I want to get (35-40# at 28"), so today I didn't draw it as much. I also shortened a bit the long string, now it's at zero brace height.

looking good all!!! I got one limb down to roughly 1/2 an inch im just gonna flatten out all the bumps and make it completely even before i move on to the next one
