Does it make good bows? What designs do you think would work?

 I have a stash of crab apple billets that I cut earlier in the year. I haven't made a bow from it yet, but plenty of other guys have and rate it highly.

Yes is great wood.
Don't worry about 'designs' too much. The only thing to worry about along those lines when starting out is flat belly versus crowned (elb).
The wood doesn't know what design it is in it simply feels the strain you put it under. If that strain is within the woods capabilities you are good Watch for set showing up too early to let you know if you are asking appropriate questions of the wood.
Any set before 18 - 20" indicates something ain't right Too little working limb, too narrow,too short etc.....once you see set showing up use it as your infallible guide.

Also, remember - it is easier to take wood off than it is to put it back on! . And take your time, be patient!
