recommended time to leave bow unsealed
« on: November 16, 2020, 08:56:37 am »
How long can I leave a heat treated bow unsealed before it begins to take on too much moisture? Current project is a 64" hickory D bow. I gave it a two hour strong heat treat over my grill last Wednesday. I have been working on it and don't expect I will take longer than another week or so but for my own comfort of mind I'd like to know how long I have to finish it out. I realize I could throw it back in the dryer but I'm not sure if that's necessary. RH averages around 50% and temps around 60-70 in my house this time of year.

Most just try to keep it in the dryer  while working on it until done.

hickory will rehydrate quickly.. quicker than any wood I've worked...where you live has a great deal to do with how you treat it..  gut

Keep it as dry as you can, your RH/temp will make it a bit sluggish over time.

Sounds like I better just leave it in the dryer... easy enough
