Search Function?
« on: November 11, 2020, 10:05:30 am »
Can someone explain to me why the search function usually gives me one page from waaay back - say 2007 or so? Is there a way to get more current results?
I was looking for some info on kids bows and hopefully a pic or 2. A fellow asked me to make one for his 9 year old who is a good sized boy - already 5 feet tall!

Don't use the site search function, it doesn't function. Use your normal search engine and include "primitive archer" in the search. Like enter into Google "Primitive Archer kids bows"

the search bar in the upper right is not much good, but if you click search on the left under your name it works better.  as DC says, a search engine works better, and if you want to search this site only, then you can do

red oak recurve  site:http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/

the    site:http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/    part should remain unchanged from search to search to bring up PA only

The search function works just fine if you use the advanced search feature,

There is probably simply not a lot of posts on the subject  although I did see several in an advanced search.

What Pat said, the advanced search works really well, though a search engine including primitive archer does the job too.

I have never been able to get the search function or the advanced search function to work satisfactorily either. As others have said, google does the job much better.

I just got a PM from Calendar Girl that says we're moving to a new server. Maybe the Search will work there.

I got a pile of hits by just typing kids bows in advanced search.

Sorry, but the advanced search doesn't work as well as a search engine specific "interested things" site:primitivearcher.com

Doing a search for the terms: Perry, Reflex and Trilam (just a random thought) gives 13 results here via the advanced search but 107 via a g00gle with site:primitivearcher.com (interestingly, reflex, perry and trilam gives 55  :o  (lol)  :fp)

I'm not saying that's 107 good results vs 13 good results, but that's 107 results with all three terms.

Using DC's suggestion turned up a lot of "hits" on the subject of kids bows.
Here is what I have going: Nicely grain oriented Adirondack Hickory board - 55" and 1-1/2" wide. I have it laid out straight limb until the last 12" and tapered to 1/2" nocks. Looking to get close to but not over 30#. This 9 year old is a sturdy fellow and will pull that no problem. I'm thinking tiller it to 30# at 24-25"?

Am I too wide at 1-1/2"? I'm putting a 5" piece of Walnut on for a handle so it won't be a bend in the handle style.

Thanks for the input everyone!
