First broadhead arrows: Thank you to PA members!
« on: November 09, 2020, 06:36:09 pm »
Here are a few arrows I finished this weekend; they are the first real broadhead arrows I've built, but there are more on the way!

They are Port Orford Cedar with purpleheart splines.  The fletching is leftwing turkey primaries bound in the front with my first attempt at sinew.  The heads are Zwicky Deltas.

Thank you to Pat B for the heads, to Warpath for the shafts, and Mike Yancy for the backstrap sinew!  I hope to try these out on our jack-o-lanterns tomorrow. ;D

Deer move, and they see me before I see them.  I got a lot more practice ahead of me in shooting and stalking!

Between my do list and weather I just got to the range today.  I am very impressed by the amount of damage a broadhead will do to a pumpkin.  The field tips just punch a hole through; the broad heads split the shell open.  I'm sure it works differently on a deer, but even so ...

Not me. I hate pumpkins. I’d rather gut a deer than gut a pumpkin. I do love pumpkin bread though.
How heavy are those broadheads?

About 125 grains.  Pumpkins don't carry potentially dangerous bacteria.
