Boo/osage weight advice?
« on: November 08, 2020, 08:01:03 am »
Hello all.  I have some osage lumber about 1.5 inches wide to work with.  I glued it up with 1/8 inch thinned boo in a subtle r/d.  65 inch ntn.  4 inch handle with 2.5 inch fades.  Im braced up and havent gone beyond 45 pounds and 14 inches in tillering.  My question is how heavy can i go with 1.5 inches in width with the amount of working limb described?  Thanks for the insight in advance.

it would be in the 80# range at 28 inches now, what draw weight are you shooting for,, and what draw length,,

Ill take anything 45 to 75 lbs, just trying to find out how heavy i can go without excessive set at only 1.5 inches of width.  New to osage.  Tapered to 7/16  at the tips starting about 12 inches from the tips.  Thanks guys.

from what Posted you would be good to the 75,,,
keep in mind, that the ratio of mass weight to draw weight is different 45 to 75
there is a sweet spot in there somewhere but I dont know, maybe some others will chime in,,
maybe tiller out to bout 50 short of your draw and see how it acts,, if no set then tiller accordingly to heavier weight,,

I've made them 70# @ 28" that were 1 1/8" wide and 64" ntn. You've got plenty of material there to do whatever you want.
Straight wood may make a better bow, but crooked wood makes a better bowyer
