Does anyone here make osage arrows?

Just curious.  While I'm experimenting with shoots other than rivercane, I think I might take a couple of osage logs that were too short for staves and split and cut them and try to make dowels for tapering into arrows.  Just curious if anyone on here as made osage arrows and how they turned out...what problems you encountered etc.  Thanks.

I never have but if you can find straight enough stuff I can't see why not although they might be pretty heavy.

From what I have gotten in conversations with people that have made arrows from osage heartwood the shafts are almost as tough as hickory, but need a firm hand with heat straightening. The major downfall is that they spine very low, difficult to get 40 lb spine from 11/32 shafts.

Give it a try! I've made a few nice shooting Osage arrows over the years. And some not so nice shooting Osage arrows! Seems to be a crap shoot! That being said, I killed my first selfbow deer using an Osage arrow from the same wood the bow was built from. 

To be honest, I've never had what you would consider premium Osage to work with. But if you do, and can shoot a shorter arrow to up their spine weight, then go for it. Good luck.........Art
