Would any of these boards be suitable for a bow?
« on: October 19, 2020, 12:01:52 pm »
Hello all,

Thanks so much for all the help on my previous post about board bow thickness. I'm back again with another post. There is a man local to me who is selling planks of quartersawn white oak. I told him what I was looking for (straight grain end to end, 6 feet boards) and here is what he sent me. The boards are laid out and lettered with width and thickness.

Based on what I've read, it looked like board 'B' would do the trick. But generally, which of these boards would be suitable?

B looks pretty nice
Why must we make simple things so complicated?

you should also have straight ring lines down the 8/4  or 6/4 edge to make good bows.

there are lots of bow in those 8/4 boards if you resaw with a band saw along the ring line
