Black locust pin knots
« on: July 05, 2020, 02:16:45 am »
hello there!! Yesterday I started a black locust bow. I removed the bark and sapwood, chose a heartwood ring and chased it, when I was working around 2 pin knots, they broke, and now I have 2 small holes where the pin knots were. do you think its ok to go on, or should I chase another ring? The grain goes around it, but I don't know...  I have an Osage bow with this same thing (it wasn't made by me), and the pin knots were even cut trough, and never had a problem, but I am not sure with black locust.. thanks a lot, regards from Portugal!!!

It looks like you've done a good job to me :) Black locust is my favourite wood. Go slow and aim for perfect tiller before bending it very far.
