Osage flatbow 42/24“ (No. 114)
« on: June 29, 2020, 12:58:00 pm »
Nothing special - just a common flattie. A natural grown grain narrowing is used as arrow pass.
The selftips have also a natural grown ‚overlay‘ - just an additional ring on the back (see the last pic).
The pattern on the back is painted with earth pigments (burnt umbra).
No heat, no steam, no fume. Matte finish.
Handle wrap is a two ply paper cord - I liked the matching colors, also the string is yellow/black.

Apparently my definition of nothing special is much different than yours!  That is a beautiful bow.  Very nice work.

Nice bow . Good work, and Osage is a great wood to build that kind of bow. Well it is great wood for most kinds of bows.

what you applied to protect the paper cord?

You can use a lot of materials: shellac, hardening oil, ... in this case white wood glue followed by matte finish of my homemade hardening oil.

Love these short bows. You are a master of your craft.

I learned how to make shorties here, mostly from Greg (badly bent) and Rich (half eye) - those guys are the masters. I'm very thankful they showed their way to make these kind of bows.

Brad, I have to keep it simple. I would like to make an artistic paint job like you showed lately. When I find the right time I will try that.

Thanks Gentlemen, my pleasure when you like that lil' stick
