sinew backed snake skinned Osage bow
« on: June 20, 2020, 07:02:38 pm »
Material given to me by Will B. Iffy stave with growth rings so thin I couldn't get a ring chased, so I sinew backed it. Split  on the bottom limb repaired with Smooth On.I made the bow for target shooting. The stave was a split from a large stave .63 inches nock to nock , and 35 lbs.at 26 inch draw. At 10 gpp or 350 gr arrow I am getting average  152 fps. Having a lot of fun shooting it at 20 yards.

Did you sinew it with wood glue or hide glue?  Nice looking skin job!

like the skins too, and the bend in the Full draw pic looks great! Do you have a unbraced profile pic too.
Interesting how you took care about that split on the bottom limb.

Also forgot to mention  that I am shooting an 8 strand  D97 low stretch string that always help to pick up fps.

Unbraced profile is one  a half inches of reflex at the tips.

Great fix on that bottom limb, Bob. Tiller looks good, as it always does on your bows. Those skins turned out really nice too. Nice bow. Hope your ribs are healing up.

Thanks Steve. Not a 100 percent yet ,but doing great. Building again, and shooting bows in the 35lb range, and all the chores around the house.

Looks good! Tiller in fd is spot on.
63" is a bit long for sinewing, but if it shoots nice - why not.

simson ,I was looking for a safe shooting, smooth drawing bow for target, so I left it longer than it would have had to have been. If I could have chased a ring on the back I would not have had to sinew back it for insurance . The stave had issues so I am happy with the results. Thanks for your input.

Thank you Mark. I got a nice shooting target bow from the stave, and that was my goal, so I am happy.
