Hedging, same with osage?

I doubt it they went to this much trouble with osage fence rows but I have never seen the exact procedure outlined.

Thanks Eric. I had some rough ideas about hedging but that filled in the blanks. It would be fun to try but I'd have to find a young sweetie and start smolking my pipe again. Too old for both :D :D

That was very interesting. I thought a good five strand barb wire fence was a lot of work. I always wondered how they made them so they would keep livestock from being able to get out.

I wonder how many feet a day he could do? I guess a few strands of wire is a lot cheaper. Just a throwback from when wire was expensive I guess.

I believe barb wire was invented in 1876, for the most part this did away with established osage fence rows.

Interesting that the old timer and the gal both were wearing white shirts and ties.

i was impressed at how accurate he was with all of his cutting tools  (A)
i also liked the narrator acknowledging the time at takes to train some up to the point that they are useful, thats something i feel we have lost in modern industry. bosses think they can just throw anyone on any task and expect them to do it well and that is sadly not the case.

Thanks for posting that.  It was very interesting.   I can see evidence of that technique in the hedge rows on my property.   There are stretches where all of the trees are at roughly a 30 degree angle.  I always assumed the wind had laid them over.  After watching that video I'm thinking they were trimmed to grow that way.
I was impressed with how sharp his tools were.  That bill hook was slicing that wood like it was butter.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

There are a lot of good videos on that "Woodlands" site. I've spent a bit of time there.
