Alignment: Correct or leave alone?
« on: June 01, 2020, 08:10:41 pm »
Thanks for all the help!

Do I need to correct this string alignment in y’alls opinion?  This stave has about 4 1/2” of reflex so I’m worried about twisting.

I circled where the one limb kicks off the left so my next question is...if you think I do need to correct, where would I apply heat to begin moving the limb to the right?

I usually steam and bend the handle.

And when narrowing the tips, only remove from the left side ( on pic, i would do that first)

Just taking the twist out of the tip with dry heat should solve your problem. It should be taken out. Will only take at most an hour to do.

I take a different slant, I want my staves straight and true, the only character I want in my bows is snake, if I can find such a stave.

It doesn't take much effort to straighten a stave like yours.

Thanks everybody! Eric, with that being said where would you apply the heat and what kind of heat?

In your first picture apply the heat to 3" or 4" on ether side of that visible kink and move the tip to the right slowly. Get your limb hot enough that you can barely touch it.

On the second picture heat most of the limb where the long curve is and clamp the left side of the limb to a thick board with c clamps.

After you get the limbs straight work the limb twist. You will probably have to do more limb straightening after you remove the twist.

I'd sure straighten that out if it was mine.
