Is this American Elm?

This tree came down in a storm.  The roots are still attached, so it’s still alive for now.  I’m just trying to confirm it’s some type of Elm, and if it’s good bow wood.  Thanks.

Seems more likely to be red elm based on the end cut.

That would be more likely, I suppose.  I just didn’t think the heartwood looked dark enough.

American Elm is generally mostly sapwood  in smaller trees with  browner heartwood if  in  any amount.

Was it wet or dry, generally, where you cut it?  American elm seems to like creek/river side or bottom lands.

I'd say it's red elm.A lighter weight type elm.Get it split and the bark should pop of yet.Red elm can make good serviceable 50# bows with 2" wide limbs.
