In the 2 I completed, I carved the scallops in when I had the bow tillered to 18-20 inches. I didnt look at it as losing weight but gaining a few inches on the tiller. Think it was about 3 inches I gained, and that will depend on depth of scallops vs width of bow. Post scallops I would check limb thickness often and correct with sandpaper and a block of wood if needed, so hinging was no more of a concern than any other bow.
