Nice work!
Shouldn't the loop be closer to mouth of sheath?

Yes it should, its right at the balance point so I got away with it  otherwise I would have had to extend the loop opening towards the mouth.

Had a pretty awful glueline, don't know why so I soaked the thing apart,  cleaned everything up, checked for a tight fit, all looking really good,  glued it together,  glue line still nearly as bad. Had to glue in some splines. Cannot work out what's going on unless the one side warped as the stress came out when I split the timber. Cost me 10 days to soak it, dry it, glue it and spline it. Back on track, carving nearly done. Maybe two or three hours before sealing and painting.

Very nice stuckinthemud.I like it.
Would a sinew wrap at the top make it any stouter?

There is a channel let in for a wrap of some sort, sinew would work really well and is not something I had thought to use until you mentioned it. I was toying with a fancy linen plait of some sort

Really beautiful. Those leaves give a really good 3d effect.  T

Spent a big chunk of the weekend carving an ojime (bead) from an antler tip with bamboo insert. Also dug out a netsuke I carved while exam invigilating one summer  several years ago that sat in a box ever since.  Just got to twist a fancy string and we're all done.
