Black locust stave question
« on: April 25, 2020, 01:41:29 pm »
This is a side view of a black locust stave. I’m wondering if I’m supposed to work down what would be the back of the bow to get past (or at least into?) that thin white strip (presumably sapwood?) on the bottom. Or is that White strip itself supposed to be the bow’s actual Back? The bark was very thick so maybe this was supposed to be removed With the bark? Thanks.

Yep, the lighter wood is sapwood, and most people remove it on black locust unless they need the width on a small sapling.  Make sure you seal the back to avoid checking!
