wooden quiver - any ideas on how to make this?

OK, so this is a replica medieval quiver for crossbow bolts, it would be covered in leather or fur and fitted with a hood/lid. I would like to have a go at making one. I guess they are a three piece construction but I have no idea on a good way forward, any ideas?

+1
I'd start with carving half split log for the frontal curved part.
I hardly think you can do it by bending a flat sheet of wood
the back and bottom should be pretty easy to do and glue on once the first piece is done
maybe the bottom part could be carved together with the front but it's much more hassle in my opinion.
I'd stick with 3 pieces

Another way (but it does not seems a correct replica) could be to use some veneer sheets glued togheter on a mould to acheive the curved piece
A lot like skateboards decks are made
it would be alot faster to make more than one once you got your mould done. You'll get a piece in the time your glue sets

I think glisglis has the right idea with his first idea. Like carving a bowl out of a half log, minus the bowl part. It would probably be stronger that way, keeping in tact, for the most part the ring structure. Like a hollow limb bow. This looks like a fun project. I hope you post as you go at it.

Have you ever worked with elm bark, It is thick and when wetted can be shaped and then dries hard. Then you could scrape the deep furrows off until smooth, The bark is easy to work the hard part is acquiring the material. Good luck with your project. Bob

Hi stuckinthemud
I sent you a pm.
Holz = wood
Köcher = quiver (the ö is important
)

Thank you for your pm!! My keyboard doesn't have the German letter-keys on it and Google Translate is still not perfect. Your friend's work is really something, I should have just copied and pasted your search term instead of trying to type it into the search bar.

you can also type oe (ö), ae (ä) or ue for (ü) that works [the WWW don`t take the german ö, ä, ü. we also have to type in WWW the oe, ae or ue for writing,]

I will jump in for a laugh! The little double dots over a letter (vowel?) are called an oomla? Nicht sprechen zie Deutsch! Don't do to well in English, either! The Internet isn't always international! But back to the wooden quiver - neat idea, but I think you would want to make two parts from the same log, and scoop them out similar to a bowl of spoon.

Have you seen this? I think he just glues flat boards at angles and removed what isn't a quiver. (add the "H" to the link)
