Can anyone ID this plant?

Was out hiking with my kid and the dog.  Saw this plant growing in a wash.   Looks to have potential arrow shafts in it.

Given there are soooo many varieties of willow... This is one of them! Without more info, hard to tell species....

The flower pods look very long, but a couple more weeks should give a better idea!  Willow will make arrows, also back rests, and dream catcher circles, as well as other non-arrows items.   I made a medicine wheel for a lady years ago, and it was one of the few items she kept when she changed philosophies!
