Bowyers draw knife for trade
« on: March 10, 2020, 12:03:13 pm »
Made a couple of draw knives the other day and only had need of one so I thought I might offer the other for trade. These are hand forged by me in 1084 blade steel. A full 1/4" thickness, Left in forge finish with a straight blade and convex edge. The spine of this drawknife is ground on an 8 degree angle to function as a scraper as well. It feels good in the hand and these cut like a DREAM, hold an edge like nothing I have seen available commercially. That is the reason I make them. Handles are knife scale style in laminated paduak. This one will last a lifetime.

I am looking for nice bow staves or floor tillered bows to get my target season underway. I would also consider bobcat, beaver or other large fur bearer hides. Of course reasonable other trades considered as well. Thanks guys!

If you're looking for hair on hide for making crafts, I may have something that would suit your needs. I've got 3 brain tan deer hides that all have 8" holes in the middle. They came from an American Mountain Man estate. I planned to use some of them for quivers but don't need all of them. I can text you pictures if you're interested. About 18 sq. feet. Got mink from a mink coat, about 12 sq. feet. Another piece of Tandy tanning solution tanned deer hide 18"x20" that I never broke to make soft (perfect for a quiver). Chrome tanned coon skin minus the tail (a lady now an x-friend cut it off while doing something Southwestern). A 75" rat snake skin ready for a long bow. Almost a foot of soft Emu that I tanned. Green River Buffalo Skinner blades (several plus a sheep skinner also). Fetishes - turtles and frogs. Two dozen snake skin belt buckles. I trade a lot at Rendezvous so just ask because I might have it. PM me for my cell number if interested. Richard

I'll give it some thought, although I am good on most craft type materials. I am looking for bow or arrow materials for the most part.

Finishing up a smaller 5" draw knife for a member here today for a trade.  If you guys need one larger or smaller than the one in the picture, PM me. Any size, shape or design is doable, all I need is a direction. Thanks!

Thanks! I make primarily self bows and don't prefer hickory.
