HUGE Knot in Osage

Hi all,
Working on a new bow while I'm locked down in NYC.
Have this enormous hole in near the nock end, about 10 inches from the bottom.
It's 0.5" wide. I can work around it as I've sketched out, I guess, but is that too big to sort out by going around it like that?

In your first pick I'd take the option of going to the left of hole with the swirl of the longitudal grain to the tip and eliminate that hole altogether.Unless you want a bow with a hole in it.You've got a nice straight section after that swirl to the tip.Just my 2 cents.

It’s hard to see the grain in the photos, but you need to follow the grain as it “ flows” around the knot on both sides, or you will have to much grain run off the edge of the limb.

Good solid advice thank you! Ok going to move the bow away from the hole
And work the other side instead. Don’t want a big knob so close to the tip! I wish the hole were close to the handle. It’s kind of beautiful.

Go around the knot to the left follow grain

apg....I meant to say too before going to the left around the knot you can shift your center line to the left a little bit prior to going around the knot eliminating some of the abrupt wiggle going around that knot.In other words redraw your center line a bit farther left.
It is critical as said to follow that longitudal line.

If your stave is long enough you could cut it in half, splice it and put the knot down at the handle.

I’m a sucker for  character but being that close to the tip I would try to move center line and eliminate it. I would still use draw knife and follow grain. You’ll probably get a nice squiggle there.

If you leave it go “around it” like bentstick showed.

Like Eric said would put it in a better location. I don’t like them so close to tip because they add to much weight out there.
