Sugar Shack more pictures on pg 2 for upstate
« on: March 03, 2020, 07:15:09 pm »
It’s that time of year again. Time to cook that sap down into Maple Syrup. A good neighbor has given me several nice HHB trees over the years. I decided to make him a bow last spring. I finally finished it up tonight. Just in time cause the sap is running.

I went with a Maple leaf theme. I really dug my airbrush out for this bow. I wanted to do something a little different. I put seven layers of maple leafs down with a different color wood stain each time and a couple coats of spray poly to seal each layer. I gotta admit there was a lot of times I was really wondering if I could somehow strip it all back off. I like how it turned out though. I gave it a good rub down with 0000 steel wool to knock the shine off and give it a worn used look.

I put a buckskin leather wrap on and cut out six maple leafs from two different colored buckskins. I used “beads” I made from river cane  and to space out the maple leafs I threaded on the tag strings from the handle wraps.

That is a nice looking bow.  I bet those maple leaves were time consuming.

Full draw pick still coming? (--)

Yes Shawn this one is really close to center shot. Last night I shot a bare shaft that would have been to stiff if this had been a wider handle without a arrow pass. It flew perfectly. This one flings a arrow surprisingly well.

Man, you’re getting fancy!  Great looking bow, and I love the leaves.  Gives it a nice camo pattern.

Looking good BJ. Those maple leaves came out really nice. I bet the recipient will be very pleased to get such a nice bow.

Real nice!  Natural camp pattern.  Hopefully, we are several weeks from the sap rising, February was a very cold month on average here.  Got too many things going on in too many different directions!  Have to make some time for bow work!  Nice artwork!

Thanks Jerry. So far March came in like a lamb so your guess is as good as mine what it goes out like. Right now it’s looking like a possibility of a early spring. Of course that’s what it looked like last year at this time to.

Thanks Stickbender.

Thanks Paul. I was kinda going for a camouflage  pattern with it . I might try something similar in the future but change a few things.
