The Timmyd build along
« on: February 03, 2020, 05:17:31 pm »
One of our members who heard I was struggling with poor stave decided to send me a new stave with the marks drawn out in the mail. First of all I would like to share my appreciation for timmyd and to let him know that his generosity is not only appreciated but that I hope to return it in the future to bowyers who are getting started like myself. What I need is practice bending and shaping and though I have a bad stave from a previous purchase that awaits my experience, I now have a stave ready to start building thanks to timmyd. Let's hear it for timmyd!! This thread will be devoted to a build along all in part to his generosity.

A generous offer indeed. Best of luck with your build.

Looking forward to the build. I have some ideas for this bow and am very excited. Shavings will start flying soon.

Thanks!! I live in Louisiana so perhaps the tribesmen of the osage Indians will guide on along with torges. I'm planning on using some raw hide I got for clay hayes on it and it will be a lefty.  This will be my third attempt. First was basically a piece of firewood I bought on ebay. Second was the crap sandwich I paid premium price for.  This one could be the ticket. It's my first attempt at a lefty so we shall see how it goes. The stave has a lot of reflex naturally in it.

Took measurements today. Stave is 67 1/4 long and deciding on a ring. Also rereading my books for me build has been a deeply spiritual journey.

So today I picked two rings I like. 1 that was good and one that I thought was great. The good ring was above the great one so I went for that in case of a violation. I used my sharp small draw knife to carefully expose the ring and then my large dull draw knife to continue to expose it. Spent about 20 to 30 minutes and by the end the sound of the crunchy layer I was removing was music to my ears. And my old friend the draw knife felt as though it had never left. I love this magic.
