Bow from M2A (Scalloped bow)
« on: February 03, 2020, 03:53:46 pm »
This post is overdue as I received this bow before Christmas.

I had the privilege of organizing to 2019 bow trade but I did not participate.  I had planned to build a reserve bow in case one was needed but I was not even able to do that in 2019 as time was short for me due to some personal reasons.

Mike (M2A) stepped up and took care of building a reserve bow for me.  He also secretly built a bow for me.  The bow he gifted to me is a scalloped bendy handle bow that is just gorgeous.  This bow is 65 1/2 inches tip to tip and 62 inches nock to nock.  The bow maintains about an inch of reflex immediately after unstringing!

The bow is made of black locust and it is 58 pounds at 28 inches. It is a pleasure to shoot.  After I received this bow I went out and shot it right away and I could not miss a 3 inch circle at 15 yards.  I loved it so much that this bow became my late season hunting bow.  I never got an opportunity at a deer during the late season but I sure did have fun going into the field with this awesome bow.

Enough talk now, here are the pictures of the bow M2A built for me.

Like how you did the photos for the bow.  This bow motivates me to finish up my two bows I am gifting with some better ascetics than my own.

Great job on those pictures Swampman. Sure glad you been enjoying that bow! It was a lot of fun to make. Got the idea from a Jim Hamm book if I recall right but cant remember the page number off the top of my head right now. Don't think there is even a pin knot in that piece which is a first for me lol. The walnut and bloodroot stains seemed to fit right in on that bow. I have been liking that style of raw hide handle as it seems to give a good non-slip grip and is rather simple to apply. Kinda fitting you would post that bow today as I have dropped a 60 ft locust tree at lunch time and spent a little extra time splitting some of it up, hope to finish it up tomorrow and then will have plenty of wood for next year(s) I hope.
Participating in the last 2 bow swaps really pushed me to work harder in every aspect to complete a build. Thanks for your efforts.

That bow looks good at brace and FD. I bet that really thumps the bale. Nice work.

Well deserved Swampman...Mike makes excellent bows !...I think the bend and balance are class A, and those scallops are gorgeous...The unstrung profile speaks for itself...Looks like a museum piece...I'm jealous...
