Bamboo-Cumaru-Lemonwood Carriage ELB
« on: January 21, 2020, 08:15:26 am »
Last winter I glued some laminated staves in my old workshop for future use. Three of them I made to bows immediately to some archery fellows. A couple of weeks ago while shooting in Finnish National Championships a glassfiber longbow shooter expressed his wish to get more traditional bow to try. I promised to help him in this. A minut later he updated his wish to takedown (carriage bow) to ease (air) travels. Last weekend ended to this result for him: A Bamboo-Cumaru-Lemonwood Carriage ELB. Stained with mahogany wood wax before several layers of TruOil. Nocks and arrow strike plate from water buffalo horn and black leather on handle. Dacron string to meet IFAA rules.

Very nice bow, nice combo, just one question: where can you get take down sleeves in Europe?

I think I bought them from The Longbow Shop or Flybow (can be found by Google). Not very cheap. I have tried to find metal tubes with proper diameters from some plumber and metal work shops to make my own but w/o success...

I am going to assume you build the bow, then cut it where you want, then fit the sleeve. Correct?

Most people add them to pre-cut billets.  The glass /carbon type is likely used more often for a bow which is then cut in two.

Very nice.

Not to be picky but with the stiff handle this would not fall under the ELB description
