Rivercane shaft Obsidian point
« on: January 20, 2020, 01:05:12 pm »
I got the rivercane from a trade with Trapper Rob. I really like this stuff for arrows. Straightens nicely and seems to stay straight.

Got the Obsidian as a gift from Paulsemp. A pretty piece of tri flow Obsidian I knapped into a nice hunting point.

I halved it onto the shaft with a little jbweld and white tail sinew.

I have a bit of trouble getting glue to hold fletching on these rivercane shafts so I spiral wrapped them with white tail sinew.

This one is going in my hunting quiver.

That's a beautiful arrow! I like your cresting.
I put my best stone points to the arrows which never flew good. Collect em and when I have enough maybe as a wallhanger. Mine are far away from hunting quality so better like this....
Wish you a good hunt with this one!

Thanks BTW. I'm still looking for that stone point kill. I should have it but it wasn't to be. No fault of the arrow. It was all me. I'm really hoping next season. I didn't get much hunting this past season.

Thanks Rob. Sometimes I think I had about the best luck with regular Elmer's School glue.

To get the feather to adhere to the cane shaft you have to scrape off the outer layer of the cane.  I’m not sure what the proper name is but it’s the shiny layer.  I wrap my feathers with fine sewing thread then use very small dabs of gorilla super glue.  Once set I remove the thread and the feather is rock solid on the shaft.

I don't scrap off rind on cane when applying feathers.. I peel mine..coat shaft with hide glue and wrap feather on with sinew... Ive never had a feather detach...

Thanks everyone. I don't think these fletchings are falling off. They seem tight. I have lost a couple from the cane before though. Could have been my glue. I do usually scuff up the shiny rhin .

A decorative piece like that and flies good is a gem. Good luck with your hunt next season.

Love the arrow!  How does it fly?
