Fabric backing

I've heard of some bows being backed with linen.  I assume that's just for safety, not for performance, correct?

Also, I have a really cool piece of tartan fabric--Weathered Gunn, my ancestral tartan and pretty good camo, too--on the way.  It's 8 oz worsted wool.  How would something like that work as a backing?

Correct on most being insurance with the possible exception of  silk if applied when bow is reflexed.
I never used wool  and never heard of it being used. Might be too heavy?

Part of the problem with various backings is true fiber/glue adhesion.  Many fibers actually don't have a very good fiber surface for the glue to adhere to.  They are basically like a varnished surface being expected to take glue.   You end up with the fibers being like a copper wire running through a plastic coating.
 
 Consider this when you want to experiment with a wool backing.

So, the surface of wool fibers might be too slick to adhere well to TBIII, hide glue, or whatever.  I can see that.  I'm not at all committed to the idea; just curious.  I've never heard of wool being used as backing, and I figured there might be a reason.

that wool might not be good for backing, but if you have enough, it would be a nifty kilt, or hunting shirt!  Don't know enough about backing to help on that, though.

i dont think it would be good, too stretchy,, but if you wanted it for the look,, you could back the bow with a suitable cloth,, and then glue the wool to that,

It would look cool, thats for sure, but for adding protection, maby not so much, but if there are englishmen around where you hunt, you might want to read this first.

There's been some interesting tales from A teams in 1st Special Forces Group at Ft Lewis about the back country!  But not at the debriefings! . Nothing official, of course!
