Tweaking bows

I built this Yew bow a few years ago.  The tips were quite heavy so I took off about 1/4"  and carved out the shelf some more,  that makes the bow more tolerant of spine I'm shooting 44# spined arrows and it shoots fine.  Draw weight is 40# - 42#.   It has 1 1/2" of natural Deflex which I decided to leave it that way and not reflex the tips..   It shoots fine nice and straight no hand shock.  Have any of you guys left natural set in a bow..?

Yes, on an Osage stave that never should have been a bow to begin with. I also ended up sinew backing it.Still shooting , but better than 2 inches of set.

  If a bow has 1 1/2" string follow ( not set) They can still shoot very decent. A bow with natural string follow is less likely to take set during tillering, set has a lot more hysteresis ( Wasted energy) than natural string follow and they can make very sweet shooting bows, not barn burners but still very decent cast.

I used to toss deflex staves in the "look at that later" pile but nowadays I make reflex/deflex bows from them. In combination with a good heat treat they take almost no set and shoot awesome!

I have a bow with 1,5 or 2" of natural deflex. Itīs the nydam bow I posted on a thread one or two weeks ago. This bow didnīt take a lot of set and it shoots well.  This bow is quite good with heavy arrows somehow.  I donīt know why. Bows with some deflex are shooting very steadily in general.
