Red Oak recurve

Hello guys!
Today I've just took a few shots of a new selfbow I made. It's my first Red Oak selfbow and it's made from stave. I really enjoyed working with this wood.
The bow is 57" long and draws over 50 lbs at 24". Tips overlays are made from Bog Oak. I applied short stiff recurves on the stick and some steam corrections at handle. It's very easy to bend it with steam. Shoots really fast and smooth. Some woodburnings near the handle and linseed oil coating.
I named it "Zawisza" as a tribute for the most famous Polish knight. It's the gift for my cousin.
For sure I will make more Red Oak sitcks!
All the best!!!

Nicely done. Don’t see too many red oak stave bows. I like it. Is it all heart wood?

Very nice red oak recurve. Beautiful execution.
Red oak staves aren't the same as red oak boards for some reason. The red oak stave I used once was very hard. Red oak boards don't seem so hard.

Thank you for kind words guys!
Ryan Yoon- it's all heartwood. Red Oak has a not much of sapwood at it was all cracked on this stave.

that wood looks great and you made a really nice bow out of it. The tips overlays are a bit too far overhanging for my taste, gives me the feel they could break off by stringing the bow. Bog oak makes beautiful overlays...
well done!

Very well done. For me, somewhat too short for the long handle and the draw weight. Still I just love the "Sudbury" style front profile. We probably need a more universal and international name for that profile. Such neat and classic lines. Thanks.
