Little Black Elder
« on: November 19, 2019, 03:08:08 pm »
Whooha, my eldest one did his first bow (with a little help from my side of course). It's for a school-mate's birthday. We dont see many black elders here so I^ll post this one.... very nice, very light but tough wood. Its about 52" and pulls 23#@20".  ;D cheers

Very nice looking. Is that hollow a natural part of the stave? Never worked with elder.

Awesome.   I just finished up a little short bow that had a big pithy center I scraped out.  It made a very unique and interesting looking bow

Nice bow!  That will be a special gift!  Just have to be sure to teach his friend to not overdraw!  Good to see the young ones getting into the craft!

Yeah Del, Elder is always good for a surprise - but if you treat it well you'll be rewarded  - similar to yew, elder is a diva ;D
Thanx Hawkdancer - as long as the bow is longer then the archer overdrawing is difficult  ;D - so its safe for the next two or so years...
Thanx b2w, he's happy with your qualification - looking forward to Kilians debut  ;D
rps3, thanx, he's 7 1/2 y
Thanx slimbob!

What a sweet little bow!  Nice job!
