Rock in houston
« on: November 22, 2019, 08:44:57 am »
So i may be going to Houston TX and will be there for about a day. I would like to get maybe 30# of rock but i dont have the time to be scrambling around all over Houston. If anyone has a suggestions of where i should look? if you pull up google maps you can see all the little creeks and stuff and if you could pinpoint some places where it could be... just the general area. If anyone in Houston has a suggestion but doesn't want to post it on here please PM me. Ill put a pic of where i think rocks may be.

Edit- im not looking for a specific rock... any rock would be ok... as long as its knappable and over maybe 3"... im getting kinda desperate (lol)

Go to a landscape company. They use knappable river cobble at most restaurants. It is tough to knap but it knaps.

I found some good rock at the BBQ restaurant in Pasadena. I think it was called First Choice. :KN >:D

Check the road cuts and creek bottoms if you have time.  Otherwise, JEB has a good idea.  I will check my rock bucket - hate to see a guy get too desperate for rock to beat on :KN >:D (lol) (lol)!

Like JEB said, the landscapers have the best rock. I drove one Sunday looking for rock in the area and didn't find any till I got south of San Antonio. Found some good perd's in a muddy corn field. I did see a lot of the same stuff piled up at landscaping supplies but they were all closed on Sunday, my only day off.

You will find out when you strike a piece with your bopper what "bull" rock is.

Scratch one bopper!?  Hit it with a geolist hammer first!  Or a jack hammer!  Just kidding, but I haven't heard that term before either! (lol) (lol) :KN >:D
