Rawhide backed Osage Horsebow
« on: October 07, 2019, 01:58:06 pm »
Finished up a new bow for a friend (Vastin Hall)of mine that rides bareback and hunts pigs with a horsebow (yes we will be sharing a video and of course a PA article of that in the near future!).  This bow is what I call my Horseman.  It is 52 inches long, deer rawhide backed Osage, veneered with a red ratsnake skin (basically the eastern version of a bullsnake).  It draws about 63# @ 24" draw. The tips are dyed red, white dotwork on the sides of the limbs, rawhide handle wrap with no shelf of course, my turquois arrowhead inlay makers maker, and mane hair from the horse he rides. In addition to that is a cordage twisted rawhide string and I also put together a bison hide quiver and a set of 25 inch hardwood arrows with Edwards points on them. The bison hair tufts on the quiver are from the bison on took with an atlatl last winter.  Hope you enjoy the pictures even a 1/4 as much as I enjoyed the build! thanks - Ryan

Who could say neigh to a horsebow like this?

If Vastin is not pleased with it, I am willing to pony up the cash for postage to take it off his hands.  I am pretty sure that is an empty threat, but there it is. Nice work, Ryan.

Dude, that is a sweet setup! Really well done :OK

What did you use for the red coloring on the arrow shafts? I like that color and overall style of the arrows.
