loud string
« on: September 27, 2019, 07:46:01 pm »
One of my last bows has a noisy string, it makes a vibrating sound for an entire second after the shot is made. What could be the cause? I did make the string a lit long, so I twisted it to shorten its length more than normal I dont know, may thats it.

Is it a recurved bow? I had one that had the string running parallel to the bow for an inch or two, just barely touching. It would buzz and vibrate something awful. Changing the brace height a bit solved it.

Only ever had that problem if it was an FG bow using an endless loop string.  Or the tiller is way out of whack.

No not a recurve, I will mess with the brace height it does look a little high. I think the tiller is alright but I haven't put a finish on so I can tweek it it if I need too. I definitely don't like the noise.

It has to be the tiller.

Fast flight string, I think the tiller needs work. What I am seeing in the photo, top limb looks too weak, but the outer top limb looks stiff. It kind of looks like the arrow is traveling down in the draw also.

Tiller ain't bad. What grain weight is the arrow, how heavy is the bow? Your limb timing may be off as well. For fun, flip the bow upside down and see if any difference can be had.

Arrows are 460- 500 grain, bow is 40 lbs. Top limb is longer than bottom limb.

Just put fur silencers on the string. They work wonders.

I've never noticed a bows tiller contributing to noise. Its usually because a string isn't round or its cabled up. A bow string is like a guitar string, there are harmonics involved. Glad you got it quieted down.
