Ash-backed Holly - 62" - 43# @ 28"
« on: September 15, 2019, 09:59:15 am »
Hi Folks
Did lots of experiments with this one and finally got a bow. New wood, new backings, new glueing-techniques, new glue (ready to use canadian fish-glue), new grip-wrapping, new design...all new. Finally did the glueup 4 times  8)
Thanx btw for the grip-know-how and for the tung-oil: I like it!
Thanks everybody for showing your bows, sharing knowlegde and watching!
Cheers

What is the little step-down in the handle wrap? It looks like you built up one side of the handle or something.

DC, just folded/doubled the leather before overwrapping it with rattan skins I got from btw-Martin. Thanks for material and idea again!

That's a nice bow, so straight....
Holly and ash...never heard about this combo, and the numbers are good!
The grip looks cool I know how it feels :OK
When you trim the leather at the overlap you can get rid of the step. Using thin leather helps too.
Would really like to see a pic drawn by hand, it's bending in the handle, right?

Very nice looking bow. I really like the handle rap. I had to look up rattan skins. Looks like a successful experiment!!!

Very nice!  How long did you have to look to find a piece of holly that clean?  I've only ever seen nasty twisted bushes

thanks everybody for the kind words.
josh: indeed hard to find straight ones - I was lucky last year - you have to look in shady corners where the plants have to stretch for light. I think I might know where I can find more.
btw: only for you - as you can see the tiller is not perfect (but good enough for me) - sometimes you have to stop as long as you still have a bow. The good sign is, that the bow is not taking set and is keeping the profile even after fullfull drawn speed test (-;
Cheers
