2 Pc Osage Takedown

Still on my trend of working on partially finished bows, this one was a gift from a member who has been here at PA for many years.  Glenn had started this take-down by chasing a ring on the billets and fitting the brass sleeves to the billets.  I guess he lost interest a couple years ago and asked me if I wanted it, naturally not being completely brain dead I said yes  .  I took it down a few months ago from where I had stored it and I've been looking at it ever since.  Then a couple weeks ago I had another look at it and decided to finish it.  The sleeve needed more work as the brass inserts were much too snug, too me awhile to get it apart.  Also I found that the handle was too long for my tastes so I re-worked the inserts so that they sat deeper and cut off the extra wood sticking out.  That part took me a few days to sort out properly.  The limbs were quite thick so I got to work thinning them down  .  I used dry heat to take some character out and reflex the outer limbs a bit.  The end result.......

The bow is 65" long overall with limbs  1 3/4" wide at the fades tapering to 1/2" tips.  It pulls 57# @ 28", I have pulled it to 29" a few times.  The leather handle is brain tanned Deer hide.

Very nice Marc. I sure hope you still have a big pile of unfinished bows to work on. Always enjoy seeing them when your finished with them. Beautiful profiles.

I talk to Glenn fairly often and consider him a good friend.  His mom died in a pretty horrible way a few years ago and left him with a hard decision to make.

that is a design that I have always like for a hunting bow...if it was only about 10# lighter... It looks great and like it would be a pleasure to shoot.

Thanks guys. 

It's a nice design and heavy, both physically and in draw weight, but it has smooth draw.  Not quite fond of the take-down system though.  Had to do a lot of work to it to get it to come apart relatively easily.  It's not bad now but it was rough trying to take apart initially.
