see through sinew back?
« on: August 06, 2019, 03:22:48 pm »
Is there a way to do a clear solid, say backstrap in one piece,  sinew back to reduce the likelihood of a splinter lifting on a highly figured piece of ( either osage or mulberry, I'm not certain  ) stave? I'd like to see through the back to see the figuring on the bow back.

I hear there is a special "sinew" cloth that you can put on the back. Unlike regular sinew you use epoxy. You can see right through it after it has been wetted with epoxy.

Never tried it, but it might have an application to achieve your goals.

I did some sinew backings many years ago using a highly refined gelatin, this was actually an Australian product by a company called Davis.  The end result was very clear and a nearly see through sinew backing.
